Motorist slapped with a parking fine in council car park - while illegal traveller camp on same site got off scot free
The mobile-home owner was hit with £70 penalty next to convoy of 13 traveller caravans
An unlucky motorist was hit with a fine in a council car park – while an illegal traveller camp on the same site avoided punishment.
The mobile-home owner was slapped with a £70 penalty after apparently overstaying its allocated time at the location.
But at the far corner of the car park a convoy of 13 traveller vehicles - who had pitched up several days earlier - had not received tickets.
Stirling Pickles posted: "Does this seem fair? A warden wouldn't go near travellers, but will ticket a tax paying citizen who's probably overslept in the camper.
"If I was a warden I'd give a hard knock on the door and explain. A ticket should be a final result."
Resident Gosta Vou said: "This holiday maker gets a ticket and this lot in the background get nothing."
It is not the first time travellers have parked illegally in the town and not received a parking ticket.
Earlier this year a group set up an illegal camp on the Beach Lawns - but none received a penalty for doing so.
The latest convoy arrived at Locking Road car park last Sunday (27/08) but most have now left after being issued with a legal notice by the council.
North Somerset Council said it will now review the issuing of the ticket to the camper van.
Council spokesman Nick Yates said: "We would not have normally issued a ticket to a vehicle that was contravening the parking regulations at the same time as there are travellers parked on the same site.
"We will be reviewing the issuing of this ticket."
