Verizon Loses 52,000 Pay TV Subscribers in Second Quarter

The telecom giant, led by CEO Hans Vestberg, reports its latest financials.

Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg
Telecom giant Verizon on Thursday reported that it lost 52,000 net pay TV subscribers for its Fios video service in the second quarter, compared with a loss of 37,000 in the year-ago period and a loss of 53,000 in the first quarter.
Fios competes with cable and satellite TV services. The subscriber losses were "reflecting the ongoing shift from traditional linear video to over-the-top offerings," Verizon said.
The company's broadband service added 28,000 subscribers in the second quarter, compared with 43,000 in the year-ago period.
After its acquisitions of AOL and Yahoo, Verizon created a new division, Oath, which was then expanded further to become Verizon Media Group and encompass all of its media and advertising businesses. For the second quarter, Verizon Media, led by Guru Gowrappan, said its revenue fell 2.9 percent from the year-ago period to $1.8 billion. "Gains in native and mobile advertising continue to be offset by declines in desktop advertising," the company said.
Verizon, led by CEO Hans Vestberg, had for some time planned to launch a live TV streaming service for young wireless users who are cord cutters or cord nevers, but it then decided to instead offer other over-the-top (OTT) services via its platform.
In that vein, the company with its first-quarter earnings announcement unveiled a partnership with Google's YouTube TV streaming service, serving as a reseller. The companies said Verizon would "also offer unique, high-value YouTube TV promotions to customers across platforms" including Fios TV and Verizon's wireless services.
Verizon management has in the past reiterated that the company wasn't eyeing any major content mergers or acquisitions to increase scale against rival phone and digital players.

Raspberry Macarons

Raspberry Macarons Time : About 2 ½ hours, plus at least 24 hours chilling These macarons' recipe include a little amount of finely chopped freeze-dried raspberries, which lends an unexpected tart fruitiness. Just keep in mind that it can also encourage the shells to brown very rapidly, so if the first batch starts to get a little golden, lower the oven's temperature for the second batch by around 25 degrees. Japanese boneless chicken recipes

Yakitori-Style Zucchini With Scallions and  Salmon Yakitori is a Japanese dish where boneless chicken pieces prepared with salt (shio) and a soy seasoning sauce (tare) are strung onto bamboo sticks and barbecued over a charcoal fire. This weeknight feast acquires the kinds of conventional yakitori and applies it to salmon and vegetables. A pungent sweet sauce of soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, garlic and ginger serves as a coating and serving sauce. Prepared with greens, the extra salmon and vegetables make a decent serving of mixed greens the following day, and the sauce keeps in the cooler for as long as seven days. Brush it onto chicken or pork cleaves prior to broiling, or use it to prepare your next wipe out-the-cooler singed rice. INGREDIENTS   ¼ cup canola oil, plus more for greasing 1 tablespoon minced garlic (from about 3 cloves) 1 tablespoon minced ginger (from a 1-inch piece) ⅔ cup low-sodium soy sauce ⅓ cup turbinado sugar 2 tablespoons unseasoned rice vinegar 2 t...

How to prepare Skillet Chicken With Black Beans, Rice and Chiles

Skillet Chicken With Black Beans, Rice and Chiles TIME: 1 hour  This authentic one-pot marvel of chicken, black beans, rice, tomatoes, and chiles, adapted from Diana Henry's "From the Oven to the Table: Simple Dishes That Look After Themselves," will please everyone at the table. The cumin-infused rice soaks up all the luscious juices as the chicken thighs roast. The rice and chicken are both nicely cooked when the timer goes off. Use a 12-inch skillet for this recipe; any other size could lead to undercooked or overdone chicken or rice. If you have any leftovers, they taste fantastic in tacos or enchiladas. INGREDIENTS Yield: 4 to 6 servings 8 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs Flaky sea salt and black pepper 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil or peanut oil 1 large yellow or white onion, chopped 2 green or red bell peppers, halved, seeded and sliced 2½ cups chicken stock 2 red Fresno chiles or jalapeños, halved, seeded and chopped 1(3-inch)  cinnamon stick, broken in ha...

Are You A vegetarian? This is what you Need " Vegetarian Mushroom Wellington"

How To Make Vegetarian Mushroom Wellington Classic beef Wellington is a technical feat in which a tenderloin is topped with foie gras or mushroom duxelles, then wrapped in puff pastry and baked. This vegetarian version is less exacting yet just as impressive. Seared portobello mushrooms are layered with apple cider-caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms, which are seasoned with soy sauce for flavor and bolstered with walnuts for texture. The rich mushroom filling is vegan, and the entire dish can easily be made vegan, too. Swap in vegan puff pastry, a butter substitute in the port reduction and caramelized onions, and an egg substitute for brushing the puff pastry. If you want to prepare ahead, sauté the mushrooms and onions in advance and refrigerate them, then assemble the dish the day you plan to bake and serve it. Prepare the port reduction as the Wellington bakes, or skip it entirely and serve with cranberry sauce for a touch of tangy sweetness. Recipes FOR THE MUSHROOM FILLING:...
