The filmmakers collaborated with several Sámi groups for their depiction of the fictional Northuldra tribe.
Anne Lajla Utsi, the managing director of the International Sámi Film Institute, hopes Disney will set an example for other film companies who want to use Indigenous culture in their stories.
“It has been a very, very good collaboration, I must say. We are really proud of that, and happy about the film, as it is now... It's a good story. It will give us visibility internationally, and that's a good thing.”
