Davido, has announced a generous donation of 300 million Naira ($608,000) to orphanages
Nigerian musician and philanthropist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced a generous donation of 300 million Naira ($608,000) to orphanages across Nigeria through his foundation, The David Adeleke Foundation (DAF).
The donation, which was made public on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, is part of Davido's yearly contribution to the nation and his commitment to giving back to the less privileged. The funds will be disbursed to 424 orphanages, benefiting a total of 13,818 children, according to the DAF Disbursement Committee.
Davido, who is one of the most successful and influential artists in Africa, said he founded the DAF in 2022 with a strong desire and passion to continually assist others and create a proper framework for ongoing charitable works to benefit the good people of Nigeria.
"Through this foundation, we have raised millions of Naira and disbursed much-needed funds to hundreds of orphanages, significantly improving the lives of countless children," he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the donors and supporters who contributed to the DAF and made the donation possible. He urged other well-meaning Nigerians to join him in supporting the cause of the orphans and the less fortunate in the society.
The DAF, which was established in October 2022, seeks support from compassionate individuals and corporations across Nigeria to raise funds for the less privileged. The foundation has previously made donations to various causes, such as education, health, and empowerment.
Davido, who is known for his hit songs such as "Fall", "If", and "Fem", is also a recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including the BET Award, the MTV Africa Music Award, and the Headies Award. He is currently working on his fourth studio album, which is expected to be released later this year.
